About Us

The Dance Stage was founded by Ms Lovell Chia with a primary aim to raise the quality of ballet education in Malaysia. The focus of the school’s ballet program is to give an all-rounded ballet education to little dancers. Little dancers who are enrolled in our program will be constantly inspired. As a result, we have dancers who are confident, creative, intelligent, technically-superior and musically- strong.

Born and bred in Singapore, Lovell moved to Kuala Lumpur in 2010 with 10 years of teaching experience under her belt. She realized that many ballet schools in Malaysia are too academic based and are solely concentrating on ballet examinations. She strongly believes that students will benefit greatly beyond the fixed syllabus. Hence, she decided to set up a performing school which she names as a “Stage” – The Dance Stage where dancing is enjoyed without losing its quality, beauty and technique.

The Dance Stage is located in Connaught Ave, Taman Bukit Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Our Principal

Lovell Chia started dancing at the age of 13 and is well versed in Classical Ballet, Jazz Ballet, Modern and Chinese Dance.

Currently, Lovell is a registered teacher (TC) with Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) and is a member of the American Academy of Ballet with more than 16 years of teaching experience in Singapore and Malaysia. She has taught close to 600 students and sent in students of all levels for ballet examinations during her years of teaching. She has been working closely with both societies to introduce and teach ballet to her students in the most appealing and enjoyable way possible.

In addition to participating in a variety of performances since she started dancing, Lovell has been invited to showcase her talent in choreography and costume designing in numerous dance concerts. She has staged several sell-out concerts in Singapore involving more than 600 students in the past years.

She is a strong believer of an all-rounded ballet education and hence she always exposes her students to dance competitions, summer school exchanges in addition to examinations every year. Under her excellent direction, her students have achieved 100% pass rates and 80% of her students have achieved Honours and Honours Plus in every CSTD examination. In addition, many of her students have won scholarships and medals in the CSTD summer schools and in the annual CSTD Asia Pacific Dance Competitions.
